Are You Not Entertained?

Like a scene out of 8 Mile, the 100 Club was transformed on Thursday, January 26th with a fresh energy and sound courtesy of hotly tipped, BBC Sound of 2012′s nominee, Dot Rotten. Bouncing onto the stage in his uniquely laced Chucks, the current Grime scene leader took his hungry audience on an energetic journey of tracks from his upcoming album. New single and Zane Lowe’s previously touted ‘hottest record of the week’, ‘Are You Not Entertained’ stole the show with arms raised and the crowd transfixed by Dot and his live band. Counting a diverse range of musical influences including Sting, Bob Marley and ‘Lil Wayne, the south Londoners sound showcased it’s wares and worthiness to it’s full and left the room in no doubt that they had just witnessed the start of very big things to come.

Prior to Dot Rotten’s arrival, Manchester based artist Darren Williams, better known as Star Slinger and already touted by Guardian’s New Band of The Day as an act to keep your eye on, got the crowd revved and in the mood with his unique sound and choice cuts from his debut, ‘Volume 1′. Best known for taking old R&B album moments and spinning them into new songs, he stood centre stage and took us on a musical masterclass which left us longing for Friday night. With interludes from #conversegigs favorites, Greenmoney, we very nearly thought it already was.
